August Recommendations

5. Key lime pie at La Grande Orange
4.  Fried duck egg on grilled asparagus at Kings Row Gastropub.
3. A free concert at Farnsworth Park amphitheater in Altadena or the Levitt Pavilion in Pasadena.
2. Caprese salad with home grown tomatoes.
1. Drinks on the veranda with family or friends or both.

What delights do you have to recommend for this wonderful month?

  1. 5. Homegrown tomatoes with just a bit of salt and pepper.
    4. Salads with lemon instead of vinegar in the dressing.
    3. Oreo cheesecake.
    2. Wine. Any kind.
    1. Dinner alone in front of the TV. Alas, I'm still waiting for this one.

  2. Wow, those are all so good, though I haven't tried Desiree's 5. and 4. I will.

    Lemme think.

    5. A slow stroll with the pooch and a note pad (or a camera) on a shady street.
    4. A hike in a canyon, somewhere where there's water still running.
    3. Yes, homegrown tomatoes (thank you, neighbors), eaten anyhow, any way.
    2. I would really like to have some alcohol but since I can't, the next best thing is an ice cold Clausthaler, enjoyed with something cooked on the grill.
    1. Iced tea or iced coffee and a book on the front porch at the end of the day.

  4. Plenty of time to squeeze them all in. I'm going to have to ponder what wine works best with Oreo cheesecake, in order that Margaret can have a blissful solitary moment in front of the tv with her secret boyfriend.

  5. A blender for mixed drinks namely of the coconut variety that have plastic monkeys and little paper parasols

    pot luck (you bring the grub) I supply a bowl of M & Ms

    twinkly lights for my back porch and GE blue bulbs from the 60's lining the way down my hillside

    pretty dinnerware

    - Hummingbird spotting
    - Homegrown tomatoes
    - Homemade mai tais on BF's deck with 180 degree views.
    - Anything with the grand boy, from sharing a shaved ice at the park to taking walks.

  8. I need to get more Key Lime into my life. Or, at least my mouth.

    My August recommendation wood bee the Heirloom tomato tart at Pasadena's new Tender Greens! But it's not a regular item. So order it when you can!
