Do You Eat Tomatoes for Breakfast?

In a recent conversation with writing buddies and their wonderful crop of home-grown tomatoes, someone thought eating tomatoes in the morning was a bit challenging.  I must confess to finding cereal a crime against humanity.

I do enjoy tomatoes in the morning, whether cooked down, with onions and chiles in Mexican eggs, or sizzled in bacon fat the English way.

Actually, I can eat home-grown tomatoes any time of the day or night, sliced and salted.  And I did.  So lucky to have talented gardeners as buddies.

  1. I can eat tomatoes anytime. But I have to say that I love cereal. It is a real comfort food for me.

  4. Yum, yum. My husband has oftened threatened us with beans on toast; I prefer beans on a tortilla.

  5. The best breakfast I ever had was in Cancun. My Mexican boyfriend and I left the resort and went into town. In a tiny restaurant, all windows and sun, we had tortillas with cheese, eggs and peas. All of it was local food, of course. I've made this, but as I've never been able to find tortillas like those, I've never equaled it.

  6. Cocoa Crispies are a gift to humanity. Tomatoes? mine were a bit of a no show this year. The best came from that topsy turvy planter I picked up at the 99 cent store.

  7. I like breakfasts with sauce -- you know, that white sauce? That covers everything? Because egg yolks, sunny side up, make me rather queasy. But in Dublin, I had a breakfast of nothing but innards, every innard you can imagine, and I loved it!
