Musical Detour

Perhaps you missed LA Opera's version of "Cosi fan Tutte."
It was based on the Glyndebourne Festival's version.
See of clip of that here

  2. Yes. It was musical perfection. Over a week ago and it is still echoing in my mind.

  3. Ah, good. It's a favorite of mine. (Few operas are favorites of mine, but this is one.)

  5. I'm not an opera afficionado but I once had tickets to see several operas thanks to a client who left the country for a while and gave me hers. LA Opera, good seats. I saw "Madama Butterfly" with Placido Domingo (fab!), "Don Giovanni" (dull, everything about it was gray from costumes to sets to performances) and "Il barbiere di Siviglia" with Rodney Gilfry, with whom I fell immediately in love.

That was the year of the release of the first Three Tenors CD. I was rapt.

  6. Oh, that's funny, because I really like Don Giovanni. But Gounod's Faust was a disappointment -- went to the opera loving two tunes. Three hours later, left loving those two tunes only.

  7. Would love to see Faust. I know little about opera and don't care much for recordings, but when I have a chance to see it live I'm dazzled.
