Stuffed and skint

Okay, you ate way too much and you're too broke to go the movies today, much less Christmas shopping. What to do, what to do? How to idle the day then evening away?

A few recommendations:

Go back to bed (or stay in bed), taking your favorite novel with you. Loaned it out? Grab your favorite book from childhood. Drink hot cocoa/hot coffee/hot tea

Antsy? Take a walk and enjoy this marvelous time of year.
Antsy AND irked by household guests? Start vacuuming. At 6 in the morning. (Ah yes, we were house guests once when this happened).

6pm and still in bed? Raid the fridge for leftover dressing. My brother-in-law likes making a stuffing sandwich for his post-Thanksgiving snack.

However you spend this quiet day, I hope you unplug and opt for reality of the nonvirtual kind. What are you up to?

  1. Hmm, favorite book from childhood depends on which phase of childhood. Favorite novel...I have so many. The truth is I get to write today. Much to be thankful for!

  2. My plumber was going to dig all through my back and front yard searching for a pipe that has been going rogue, but he put it off until Wednesday. So now I'm rethinking my day.

  3. OOoooh, she's going rogue! Influenced by popular works of fiction, perhaps? ;-)

My male cohorts have gone out shopping and I'm home blissfully lounging. Will be cracking the turkey carcass shortly and putting on a pot of broth.

  4. Karen want us to think she is laying around the house while the males in her life are out doing battle with the crowds of Black Fryday??!
I think I saw something similar in Ripley's Believe It of Not!

  6. I'm going to be heating up the left-over sweet potato casserole. I made your recipe. Very easy and a BIG hit.

  7. P: Throw some titles my way--did you check my links? AH: Hope you had a workout-- K: Lucky you! CP: I believer her--M: So GLAD you checked the links! S: Delighted it was a crowd pleaser, at the last minute I was asked to bring it (hmmm, I guess my mom read the blog). I stayed home admiring the autumn leaves--a very noble and worthy cause. Umm, but now that I think of it I should have cased the promotions and bought a fridge!

  8. I did check your links. You have excellent taste in novels, but your favorite children's book is unknown to me. Mine was either Chanticleer and the Fox (young) or The Diamond in the Window (older).

  10. I like your books, but what I really need is a turkey leftover recipe. Looked up a few on the internet, but they didn't sound very appetizing. For example, a casserole with turkey and CHEDDER CHEESE? Yuck.

  11. Our leftover turkey has vanished--good thing, since we're tight for fridge space. But if I had lots of turkey, I'd do what my family did for years, use Dona Maria's jar of condensed mole sauce. Most grocery stores carry it. Just follow the directions, and see if it's to your taste. My mother would use chicken broth, and add a little bit of peanut butter and a small wedge of Mexican chocolate. Not so odd now, to taste buds accustomed to Thai peanut sauce--

  12. I agree, KB. And, at least as bad: CHEESE in a hamburger?? Yuck!!

  13. Strange, but absolutely true. I married a man who loves to shop. Sadly enough, I hate shopping. Perhaps it's best, actually, especially on our budget!

I will steel myself sometime over the next few weeks, dash out to the mall on a weekday and make the rest of my purchases online.

Dinner tonight: Hot turkey sandwiches, open-faced, with cranberry sauce and green beans on the side. Better than the original, usually!
