This
LA Times story from a few years back is worth revisiting. And although I don't plan on driving to downtown LA or Lynwood, or whipping up a batch of cucumber-chile popsicles, I do plan on buying plenty of La Michoacana paletas, or Mexican-style popsicles.
What makes them so good? Besides the fresh fruit, creamy style, or flavors? (Strawberry, lime, guava, among others, and my daughter's favorite, bubble gum).
My guess: they use sugar. Not corn syrup, not fructose, but sugar.
I just devoured a strawberry paleta. Delish. And, for those who count, 61 calories.
See you in the freezer aisle
I am a huge fan of La Michoacana. Whenever I visit my local carniceria I always pick one up. Doesn't matter if it's pouring outside; they always hit the spot. Coconut's my personal favorite, though I've been known to consume the strawberry ones quite happily.
ReplyDeleteAch! How could I forget coconut? And it makes me think of the Harry Belafonte song, "Coconut woman." Thanks, Sal
ReplyDeleteWere you, or your celeb lookalike, at europane Wed?
ReplyDeleteDesiree, every day with you taste buds gone crazy! :D
ReplyDeleteI-we aim to please those tastebuds!
ReplyDeleteCO-I like that, celebrity look alike, or evil twin Skippy? It was I, next time let's say hello!
I would have said H!", but like I said: I wasn't sure if it really was YOU - or an impostor. Was that sexy man you were with, Italo??
ReplyDeleteWell, I guess it was my evil twin Skippy, because I was solita.
ReplyDeleteI'm embarrassed to say that I think I've only had U.S. style popsicles. But these sound great. Can't wait to try them.
ReplyDeleteM-heavens, goddess, no need to be embarrassed! It is my humble hope to actually bring new things to my readers ;)
