Somehow I can't picture my lovely but ancient sophomore English teacher, Mrs. Warnell, packing a Beretta.
ReplyDeleteOh, my. Feeling fiesty, iI see.
ReplyDeleteA few of the teachers I had would have shot each other by the end of the first day. Or shot an unruly student. Or shot themselves, by bumbling accident.
ReplyDeleteAs a taxpayer, I don't really feel like supplying guns to all our nation's teachers, because then we'll have to supply gas station workers, crossing guards, grocery store baggers, and everyone else who works in a place where gun violence has taken place. None of us will have a dime left, not to mention a pint of blood.
To reach the majority of her students a skilled teacher needs to know so much--and that's not including the content area. It's absurd to require her to pack in order to address something that is a statistical improbability. If guns make us safe, why are we, the best armed society in the world, not?
ReplyDeleteIs this the NRA's answer? Forcing someone to carry a gun is going to get stuck in court for decades. A waste in itself.
